“The City Center Studios aren’t glamorous, but Miro Magloire’s
concerts, complete with live, wondrously sophisticated music,
can make you forget your surroundings; the man has his
priorities straight.” Claudia La Rocco, The New York Times, March 2009
Miro Magloire announces the opening of the 2009-10 season of New Chamber Ballet with September 11 & 12 performances of works by Magloire and guest choreographers Deborah Lohse and Constantine Baecher, an American dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet. The program will see the world premiere of a new, as yet untitled, work by Baecher, set to music by Martin Stauning, a former dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet-turned composer.
Constantine Baecher, called “a welcome new voice” by Claudia La Rocco in The New York Times (September 2007) will once again create a new work for New Chamber Ballet, this time to music by young composer Martin Stauning. Born in Copenhagen in 1982, Stauning was educated at The Royal Danish Ballet, where he worked as a dancer until 2007. During that time he wrote music for diverse ensembles, including the Royal Danish Orchestra. He is currently studying composition at The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
The Company will repeat Deborah Lohse’s duet, Two, to a commissioned score by contemporary composer Stefan Weisman, premiered in March 2009. Emily SoRelle Adams and Emery LeCrone will perform the roles created for them in this “beautiful and thought-provoking duet for two women.” (Philip Gardner, www.oberonsgrove, March 2009).
By director Miro Magloire are four short works from 2008 and 2009:
Romantic Pieces, a trio to Dvorak’s Four Romantic Pieces for Violin and Piano, op. 75;
Moments, a solo for Lauren Toole to music by prolific Sicilian composer Salvatore
Sciarrino;
Echoes, to Anton Webern’s Four Pieces for Violin and Piano, op. 7. The quintet
premiered on a program that Roslyn Sulcas called “a thoughtful,
engaging experience of dance.” (The New York Times, March 31, 2009);
Dreams, set to music by Miro, who began his artistic career in his native Germany as
a composer and student at the Cologne Conservatory.
New Chamber Ballet will continue its 2009-10 season with performances at the City Center Studios in November and in 2010 (dates to be announced).
